For accounting & advisory firms

More clients. Less manual work behind each one.

Use Empty Spaces across your client base to prepare recurring finance work continuously. Your team reviews what needs judgment, owns the client relationship and spends less time gathering data, reconciling accounts, investigating exceptions and assembling reports by hand.

Illustration of a firm's October close across 14 clients, with 42 items waiting for review. Aperture Health is 94% prepared, with one reconciliation, one close exception and one accrual to review and its reporting ready. Northstar Labs is 87% prepared, with four close exceptions to review and its reporting in progress. Luma Foods is 96% prepared, with one accrual to review. Agents prepare the work, the firm's team reviews it, and nothing posts before it is approved.

More capacity

Grow the client book without growing the work at the same rate.

Accounting firms are constrained by the repetitive work every client creates. Every new client can mean another set of reconciliations, close tasks, supporting documents, variance explanations, schedules and reporting work.

Empty Spaces prepares more of that work automatically, so your people spend their time where professional judgment and client context matter.

Illustration: the same ten accountants by hand and with agents. By hand they serve 30 clients and spend most of their time preparing the work. With agents they have room for more clients, and most of their time goes to reviewing and advising. No figure is given for how many more.

The work

Put the repetitive finance work in motion before your team signs in.

Empty Spaces works across the systems your clients already use to gather evidence, prepare the work, surface exceptions and route decisions back to your team.

  • Reconcile accounts

Pull ledger and source data, match transactions, compare balances and surface the items that need investigation.

  • Investigate close exceptions

Trace mismatches across systems, collect supporting evidence, explain the likely cause and prepare the next action.

  • Prepare accruals and adjustments

Gather support, find missing expenses or cut-off issues, calculate proposed amounts and prepare entries for review.

One practice

See what needs attention across every client.

Instead of opening every client's files, spreadsheets, ERP and inbox to understand where the work stands, your team sees the work that needs judgment instead of managing every mechanical step behind it.

Illustration of one view of the October close across a firm's fourteen clients, five of them shown. Aperture Health is 94% prepared with 3 items to review, Northstar Labs 87% with 4, Luma Foods 96% with 1, Beacon Manufacturing 91% with 4, and Mariner Logistics 100% and ready to close; nine more clients have 30 items. Aperture is open on its three: an unmatched deposit of $14,820 in the bank reconciliation, a legal accrual of $28,500, and an invoice whose timing differs from the general ledger, each prepared by the Close Agent and waiting for review.

Control

Your team stays responsible for the decisions.

Empty Spaces prepares the work. Your team keeps the judgment and authority around it.

Your team decides what the system can access, what it can prepare, what needs approval and what can be posted back into a client's systems.

  • Evidence

Every proposal comes with the source data and supporting documents behind it.

  • Approvals

Nothing posts to a client's ledger until a person with approval rights approves it, unless the client's policy explicitly allows otherwise.

  • Audit trail

See what was done, what evidence was used, what changed and who approved it.

  • Client boundaries

Each client stays in its own organisation, with separate systems, credentials, roles, approvals and activity history.

More than efficiency

Use the same team to offer more valuable work.

When your people spend less time gathering and preparing the numbers, the economics of higher-value services start to change.

Empty Spaces can help turn recurring accounting work into more continuous controller and finance services.

Your firm provides the professional service. Empty Spaces prepares the work behind it.

How it works

Start with your team. Expand across your client base.

  1. Choose the workflows

Start with the repetitive processes where your team already spends meaningful time every month.

  2. Connect the client's systems

Connect the ERP, bank, cards, payroll, email, documents and other relevant sources.

  3. Set the controls

Define what the system can do, what needs review and who is allowed to approve each action.

  4. Add more clients

Reuse the operating model across similar clients while keeping every client environment separate.

Your relationship

Your client still works with you.

Empty Spaces works behind the service you already deliver. Your firm stays the accountant, controller, adviser and trusted point of contact.

Agents gather the evidence and prepare the underlying work, while your people spend more time discussing decisions, explaining results and helping clients run better.

Illustration of who does what: the client works with your firm; your firm keeps the client relationship and the professional judgment; Empty Spaces prepares the work behind it; and the client's own systems, the ERP, bank, cards, payroll, email and documents, stay the systems of record.

Built for finance

Automation without losing the control structure around the work.

Finance work carries different consequences from everyday productivity automation. Empty Spaces is built around evidence, permissions, approvals, separate client environments and a complete history of the work from source to decision.

Illustration of a piece of client work from its source to the client's system: source data, evidence gathered, work prepared, needs review, approved, and the system updated, only when the policy allows it.

Questions

What firms ask us first.

  • Do you replace our accountants?

No. Empty Spaces prepares recurring finance work so your accountants can focus on review, judgment, client communication and advisory work.

  • Can we use Empty Spaces across several clients?

Yes. Empty Spaces is being designed so firms can operate repeatable finance workflows across client environments while keeping each client's data, permissions, systems and controls separate.

  • Do you replace the client's ERP?

No. Empty Spaces works across the systems clients already use. The ERP remains the system of record.

  • Can Empty Spaces post entries automatically?

Only when the workflow and permissions allow it. Sensitive actions can require approval before anything changes in a client's system.

  • Which workflows should a firm start with?

The best starting point is usually a high-volume recurring process such as reconciliations, close exceptions, accrual support or recurring management reporting.

  • How does the partnership work commercially?

We're currently working directly with firms to structure partnerships around their client base, workflows and operating model. Talk to us and we'll determine the right structure together.

Spend more time with clients. Less time preparing the work behind them.
